The Nigerian Senate has instructed its Aviation Committee to investigate the persistent delays and cancellations of domestic flights in Nigeria.
This decision came after a motion by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (Oyo North), who emphasized the adverse effects of the disruptions on Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.
As part of the investigation, the committee will summon the Minister of Aviation, the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and airline operators to deliberate on the challenges and propose lasting solutions.
Supporting the motion, several senators underscored the importance of addressing the issue promptly.
Senator Abba Moro, the Minority Leader, highlighted the need for airlines to treat passengers with greater seriousness and improve their operations.
Senators Orji Uzoh Kalu (Abia North), Victor Umeh (Anambra Central), and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin also lend their voices in support, stressing the urgency of finding sustainable measures to improve flight reliability in the country.
