BENIN CITY – The Hallmark of a free society is the right and freedom to belong to and associate with any association of one’s choice, insofar such an association is non-violent and promotes peace and harmonious coexistence between all in the society. Individuals are at liberty to join or dissociate himself or herself from any such society, as membership is never a life time affair, neither is retaining and maintaining its membership status a do-or-die affair.
However, over the years, secret cults have prevailed in Nigeria, adopting and exhibiting harmful principles and values in its wake. Members are usually put through tough initiation “drills”, ranging from flogging to severe beatings of initiates, which in some cases, have proved fatal to such initiates. More worrisome is the fact that contrary to the laws of the land, most cult groups in Nigeria frowns heavily at attempts by its members to dissociate themselves from the group, usually calling for the head of any member who attempts to renounce membership.
This is the pathetic lot of one Aibangbee Owadolor Davidson, currently on the run from a dreaded cult group in Benin City, Edo State. Sources close to our reporter, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the said Aibangbee Owadolor Davidson, a young male student, was a member of a dreaded cult group in Benin City, with branches across the country. The source disclosed that the victim, Aibangbee Owadolor Davidson and one of his friends and co-member of the cult group, for some undisclosed reasons, decided to renounce their membership of the cult group, which did not go down well with the notorious group.
The source further informed our reporter that on the 13th of November, 2015, their neighbourhood was jolted up from slumber, by the errie war songs of some masked boys, numbering up to 30, welding dangerous weapons, chanting towards the house of Aibangbee Owadolor Davidson. Upon hearing the death knell of the approaching cult members, the said Aibangbee Owadolor Davidson jumped through the window of his house and escaped for dear life. His friend and co-member of the cult group, our source disclosed, was however not so fortunate, as he was apprehended and clubered to death by the irate cult members.
As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the said Aibangbee Owadolor Davidson was still unknown, however, the rumour making rounds in his neighbourhood, our source disclosed, is that a bounty has been placed on his head by members of the cult group, who have vowed to subject him to the same gruesome fate that befell his friend, if caught.
