Warri – At least five people have been confirmed dead, and one person remains missing after a boat capsized late Monday night along the Bennet Island River in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The circumstances surrounding the tragic incident remain unclear, including the boat’s destination at the time of the accident.
Speaking on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and provided updates on the rescue efforts.
“Five found dead, six persons injured and still receiving treatment, nineteen persons rescued, one still missing,” Edafe stated in a brief update.
Authorities are continuing search-and-rescue operations while the injured survivors receive medical care. Further details are expected as investigations unfold.
