IKEJA – An Ikeja High Court has sentenced an estate agent, Olasupo Alimi, to 18 months imprisonment for defrauding a client of N12 million.
In her judgment, Justice Lateefa Okunnu convicted Alimi of the two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences preferred against him.
The judge held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had proved its case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.
She, consequently, sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment on each count, which is to run concurrently beginning from February13, 2015.
Okunnu also ordered the convict to refund the sum of N8 million to the victim, Mrs Francisca Aire-Oaihimire, as restitution.
Reports state that Alimi was arraigned by the EFCC for defrauding the woman sometime in August 2009 in Lagos.
The EFCC counsel, Mrs Zainab Ettuh, said that Alimi obtained the money under the pretext of purchasing six plots of land at Okun-Aja, Lekki, Lagos, for the victim.
Ettuh said the convict, after obtaining the money, converted it to his personal use which led the victim to petition the EFCC.
