BENIN CITY – Against the backdrop of the high spate of measles that ravaged the system, the Edo State Government has began to strategise for the control of measles in the state.
In a press release by the Edo State Ministry of Health, which was made available to The Nigerian Observer, the 2016 integrated Measles Campaign which is aimed at reducing sickness from measles, reducing droplets infection and preventable by giving measles vaccines would begin from 28th January to 1st February at all health centres and designated posts across the state.
It further stated that children from 9 to59 months old will take the measles vaccines, irrespective of the previous immunization undergone, while noting that birth registration exercise of children from birth to 17 yrs of age will also take effect.
The press release also stated that the vaccine and services which are free will commence from the hours of 8.00am to 4.00pm daily for those days and that for more comprehensive orientation, banners will be displayed at health centres and designated posts.
It urged all mothers and care givers to visit the nearest health centres and designated posts to immunize their children and get their birth certificates as there would be no house to house movement as it used to be, as the exercise lasts.
