BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Friday in Benin City, paid an unscheduled visit to the State School of Health Technology where he promised that the Curriculum of institution would be reviewed.
Besides, Governor Obaseki who also visited the State School of Nursing and midwifery on facility inspection said both schools were critical to his administration’s health reform, adding that there was need to urgently address the issue of non-accreditation of the institution.
Obaseki said that the review was imperative so that the students of the institution would be trained and be abreast of modern advance health technology as well as been able to compete with their counterpart world over, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. John Mayaki contained.
He also called for a meeting with the school authority on Tuesday with a directive to put their challenges in black and white.
According to Governor Obaseki, “We need to sit down and put down the problems in the school and discuss them so we can quickly get the school reopened.
“This school is very critical to our administration health reform”, he said.
He also said that the government was poised to ensure that the students have a conducive learning environment, adding that in view of this, his administration would ensure the state of facilities in the institutions was improved upon.
According to him: “We will review your school curriculum so that it will be in tune with what is attainable in modern health technology training and practices.
“We will make sure that the state of the hostel is improved, while we will do something about the clinic next week.
“We will also get the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Council to come and build a health centre in the school and look into the issue of your school fees you complained about”.
The Governor who directed the Principal of the School to be in Government House on Tuesday for a meeting however, urged the students to take their studies seriously.
The Vice Principal of the State School of Health Technology, Mrs. Tracy Omorogieva who conducted the governor on inspection round the various facility in the school said that present student population was 250.
She also lamented the non-functionality of the school health centre, lack of rooms in the hostel for students as well as infrastructure decay.
Earlier the Assistant Director of Nursing in the school Mrs. Alex Enunwaonye who received the governor and his entourage said that the school was not in section because its accreditation had been withdrawn.
