BENIN CITY: Edo State Government in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has achieved 88 per cent in the 2017 long lasting insecticide net (LLIN) replacement campaign which held from July 3rd through August 28th 2017.
Representative of CRS Mr. Godson Kingsley disclosed this when the team set to coordinate the distribution of the LLIN brief the state governor on the success of the programme.
He said a total of 12,233 personnel were trained for the exercise and 2,110,150 net were distributed as against the proposed 2,647,108 to be distributed to residents in the 18 local government council of the state. “We distributed one net for every two people. For one net to a single adult in a household with a maximum of four nets per household”.
Kingsley commended the political will and high level participation from the governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki and the Chairman of the team/Deputy governor of the state Comrade Philip Shaibu as well as head of local government administration for ensuring a smooth and successful exercise.
In his remark, the deputy governor Comrade Philip Shaibu commended the governor for giving the team the opportunity to serve and they put in their effort to ensure they stick to the mandate of the governor to achieve 100 per cent success.
He said international bodies like World Health Organization (WHO) were involved in the exercise and it has help the state to generate statistic that is off international standard.
Responding the governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki commended the achievement of the team for the success achieved by the short time frame.
“The exercise was significant as we were able to reach two million people as those that voted for us were not up to six hundred thousand people. I am exited that we have been able to make success with the programme”.
