Pep Guardiola’s men will open their campaign against Brighton, but will then jet to Spain for a friendly against Girona

Manchester City will jet off to a training camp hours after the start of their Premier League season, the club have confirmed.

Pep Guardiola’s men open their campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday August 12, and they will fly to Spain once the fixture is completed.

Once there City will face La Liga newcomers Girona in a friendly, with Guardiola using the trip as a chance to work with players who were previously unavailable during pre-season.

“This trip is a great opportunity for Pep to work with his full squad in an intensive training camp,” Txiki Begiristain, the club’s Director of Football, told City’s official website.

“We have had some players away on international duty this summer, which means Pep hasn’t had the chance to work for long with the whole squad.

“The game itself promises to be a fantastic spectacle, as Girona finalise their own preparations for their debut campaign in La Liga.”
