OKADA (OVIA NORTH-EAST) – Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially closed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch ‘C’ Stream 2, Orientation Course, charging the 924 Corps members to mainstream for socioeconomic development.

Speaking through his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu at the close of the three week orientation course, Obaseki urged them: “Your positive impact must be felt in different sectors of the economy, most especially within your host communities, in moving them from their present situation to the next level.

I wish to state that Edo State Government and its people place much value on your contribution to their development. I charge you therefore to synergize with our administration at ensuring the successful implementation of our policies geared towards the welfare of our people”.

Speaking extempore on the role of youths in the society Shaibu said: “Like I have always advocated, we cannot be used as thugs. The era of handouts is gone because our youths know they need to be skilled to forge a means for themselves

I want them to remain focused and remember that when it is said, ‘Nigeria belongs to the youths; tomorrow belongs to us the youths,’ that tomorrow starts from now.

How you are able to manage yourselves today would determine how you would provide the desired leadership. Leadership does not come by sitting at home doing nothing. Leadership comes from you making effort at making a change in your immediate environment.

This is what translates into the larger environment. Your little effort today is being watched and would definitely contribute to the greatness of our country.

If you do the negative, no body would reward you. You would only be known for negative things. We the Nigerian youths are determined, ready and very strong to change those narratives.

Some of us are already doing just that. Just be focused and be hardworking. Prayers would give you the needed boost and push to finish well”

The NYSC Edo State Coordinator, Mr. Adebayo Clement Ojo cautioned the youth copers against “Unnecessary travels out of the area of primary assignment without first seeking permission through the right channels of communication.”

Giving a report to government on activities during the three weeks orientation, he said, “Let me report sir, that these patriotic Corp members have within the period of this orientation course exhibited a great deal of discipline, courage, resilience and responsibility by being amenable to training and prompt response to all camp activities.

They have indeed proven beyond reasonable doubts that Nigerian youths, given the right training, support and guidance can attain the expected dream, vision, mission and objectives of the founding fathers of the scheme. ”

It must be recalled that the orientation course which officially opened on December 2, 2019, had 924 registered corp members comprising 481 males and 443 females.
