BENIN CITY – Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has commended the warring factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Okpella branch, Etsako East Local Government Area, for their initiative to burry their differences and embrace peace. After years of bitter rivalry, leading to blood shed, the two factions within the NURTW have finally expressed the desire to work together under the leadership of a consensus chairman.

Represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, (DCOS), Hon. Kingsley Ehigiamusor, during the reconciliation process at the Government House, Comrade Shaibu noted that the Obaseki Government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) believes in a bottom up approach of governance which integrated members into the party due to its strong belief in the grassroots politics.

Addressing the two former factional leaders of the drivers union and their consensus leader, Comrade Shaibu said, “This afternoon, we resolved and agreed that all members of our great union work together with the state chairman. And indeed, the warring factions that were there at Okpella led by Basket Ogene and the other group led by Friday Sadoh have also agreed to sheath their sword and come together as one body.

And with love, they have also nominated another person, Ogun Egbefomimhe who would now steer the leadership of the union in Opkella”

He went further to say that, “When there is peace in the home, every other thing follows. In this regard, in this meeting, we have some other persons that spoke and opened up on some political issues voicing their deep concerns. We see It as a challenge to us political leaders. We must ensure that we work together as a team.”

Chairman, Etsako East Local Government, Hon. Benedicta Ebuehi added her voice thus: “This is a settlement meeting because two very critical stakeholders that we have at Okpella, Basket Ogene and Friday Sadoh have agreed to sheath their swords and work with us to move the local government forward. We also have the new nominee, though working in an acting capacity, until they are able to have a proper election.”

State Chairman, NURTW, Chief Odion Olaye thanked the Deputy Governor for the right step taken, especially at this critical political moments in the state.

He said, “The disagreement at Okpella has been resolved amicably this morning. I want to assure you that Friday Sadoh who was with the old group and his brother, Basket Ogene leading his own group have both agreed to work together.”

Haven resolved the issue, Chief Olaye informed the Deputy Governor that they were ready to work together like brothers in a stronghold. He further assured of peace, promising to have further talks with the former aggrieved members of his union.

The two reconciled factional leaders publicly showed their support and resolve to follow the path of peace. They also pledged support for the interim leader. However, one of the factional leader, Friday Sadoh in showing full support to the Etsako East Local Government Chairman based on his conviction, decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

All concerned parties said they were ready to work for a government of continuity.
