ABUJA – House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Unspent Budget Funds had insisted that the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund NSITF must be probe, despite disagreement with the agency who said that the invitation to it to appear before the Committee was wrong as it is not funded by government.

the Managing Director of the agency Barr. Adebayo Somefu Speaking at an investigative hearing of the Ad-Hoc Committee investigation on Unspent Budget funds from 2009-2019, said the the probe panel’s invitation was wrongly directed.

Hon. Francis Charles Uduyok, the Ad-Hoc Committee who led other members of the probe panel however disagreed with the position of the agency as he directed them to go and prepare the documents requested of them and reappear on Wednesday February 12.

The Committee had previously written to the agency’s boss to appear at its investigation with detailed documents on appropriated and released annual budget funds from 2009-2019 for investigation of all its unspent budget funds.

But appearing before the committee, the agency said that it had no prepared documents to present at the investigation because it is not treasury funded to warrant such invitation by the Committee.

Earlier on, the Committee had grilled the Chief Medical Directors University of Benin Teaching Hospital Prof D. Obaseki, National Hospital Abuja Dr. Jafaru Momoh and Provosts of Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) as well as other federal institution over utilization millions of Naira of annual budget funds.

It had also queried the Ministry of Water Resources, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and the Bureau of Public Procurement BPP as well as Nigeria Agricultural Quarrantime Service over their utilization of budgeted funds.

The Committee while scrutinizing their documents noted many anomalies in the amount of appropriated and released funds.

The Committee Chairman Hon Uduyok consequently asked the agencies to go and resolve the differences in their documents and come back on Wednesday February 12 for further continuation of the investigation.
