BENIN CITY-Edo State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Prince Iyase Benjamin has commended the efforts of the state government towards curtailing the spread of the coronavirus in the state.

Hon. Iyase who said he does not have authority to speak much on the pandemic however expressed confidence in the competency of the committee set up by Edo State government to handle the deadly virus.

“I have no authority to speak on COVID-19 but I know a competent committee under the leadership our deputy governor is handling it and the committee is doing perfectly well”. The honourable commissioner stated.

Hon. Iyase however advised the people to always observe the precautions of the virus by following the NCDC directives on preventing the spread of covid 19 by washing their hands regularly, or using alcohol based hand sanitizer and keeping social distance and stay at home to avoid contact.

Also, he called on all supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state to remain committed to the party and be law-abiding as the state governorship election gathers momentum.

He expressed his optimism that gov Godwin Obaseki would come out victorious at the APC primary and the subsequent election.

According to him, “With what is on ground and the superlative performance of the governor, I am very sure he (Obaseki) would be re-elected comes September 19, 2020.

The commissioner made the remarks while speaking with journalists at the birthday celebration of Rt.Hon Steve Ikponmwonsa Alufa at his residence in Egor area, Benin City, on May 17, 2020.

The special duties commissioner while congratulating Hon Steve on his birthday, described him as a brother, a friend and dependable confidant.

“I am here to celebrate with a brother, friend and a colleague Hon. Steve Alufa. Birthday is the only celebration you witness on earth… The day of death is for your children to celebrate you. But your birthday is the only one you witness with your children around you”. Hon. Prince Iyase noted.

Speaking during the event, the celebrant Rt Hon. Steve Alufa of Iguelaiho town in Umaza ward, Ovia South-west local government area of Edo State expressed appreciation to God for keeping him alive in sound health.

He thanked the dignitaries including the Enogie of Egor dukedom and the APC Chairman of Ovia southwest local government area for the show of love.

The ceremony which also witnessed few numbers of the celebrant family members and APC leaders was organized in strict compliance with the NCDC guidelines on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
