ABUJA – The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Mallami Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, has decried the poor funding of the Ministry’s parastatals and agencies.

Mr Mallami SAN stated this during the twenty twenty one budget defence before the committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and legal matters in Abuja.

He said that the Parastatals and the agencies are dangerously underfunded and called for the support from the committee.

Mr Abubakar Mallami said the ministry of judiciary has huge revenue generation if it was adequately funded.

He noted that the performance of the twenty twenty budget which was seven billion naira was distabilised by covid-19.

According to him it was a year of fair and unfair challenges before the ministry.

Also speaking the solicitor general and Permanent secretary, Mr Adedayo Toba Akpata said the ministry proposed eight billion naira for twenty twenty one budget, saying two point eight billion naira would be used for personnel while two point nine billion naira for the overhead.

He appealed to the committee to pass the the proposal.

Earlier, the senate committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and legal matters, senator Michael Opeyemi said the debt profile of the country has reached an alarming rate and hoped that this year’s budget would help to reduce the debt profile.

On the money appropriated to fight Boko Haram in the north east and other places in the country by the ministry, the chairman said he was yet to meet with other members of the committee on the money said to be have been expended by the ministry.

The budget defence of the committee was adjourned for another time.
