EHOR – The Osewenkhae family of Iguomo in Uhunwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, have cried out for justice over what they call the gruesome murder of their son, Mathew Osewenkhae, eight years ago.

Addressing reporters in Benin City, Mrs Justina Osewenkhae, who spoke on behalf of the family said Mathew was murdered while cohabiting at Evbotubu, Benin City.
with one, Asemota Julius.

She said that after Mathew left the village for Benin City, he phoned his mother sometime in April 2013, to say that he had found a place and was sharing a room in Evbotubu, Benin City, with the said Asemota Julius, a Furniture maker.

She said that all was well until July 17, 2013, when they heard that he was murdered mysteriously at his residence. She added that they heard of the arrest and detention of Asemota Julius over the incident.

According to her, Asemota Julius was subsequently granted bail, on the excuse that he was not at home when the incident actually happened, but ever since the Asemota Julius has disappeared.

She said, “But our son, was killed while living with this Asemota Julius in the same room. He cannot say he did not know what happened. He was granted bail and its like he has even disappeared”.

“Our lawyer have been writing to the Police authorities over the matter since it happened and all we were told is investigations are ongoing. We do not want the matter swept under the carpet.

“We believe Mr Asemota Julius is a suspect in Mathew’s death and we will not rest until he is brought to justice. We are ready to avenge the death of our son by any means possible”.

Mrs Osewenkhae concluded that, “We believe he is running because he knows he is guilty. We are making this appeal for the public to help us in our cry for justice because we will not give up”.

Meanwhile it was however gathered that the Asemota Julius, was aged 14 when he was brought to Benin City by his mother to learn furniture making, when the incident took place. Upon interrogation, he reportedly denied the killing as he was at work when it happened.

Sources say that he alleged that the boy may have been killed as a result of cult activities. However, after his bail he was allegedly taken to Lagos although Mrs Osewenkhae claims he may have left the country.
