The Edo State Government has urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise to protect themselves against the pandemic.

The state’s COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who gave the charge while speaking to journalists in Benin City, reiterated the need for the elderly, health workers and other eligible members of the public to get vaccinated with the first dose in the first phase of the exercise.

Obi said only those who received the first dose will have an opportunity for the second dose, noting that the second dose vaccination exercise will commence in June.

He said vaccination is ongoing in the state at fixed locations, including the premises of the Edo State Ministry of Health, the Hospitals Management Board, Central Hospital, Immigration Office and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), as well as other mobile posts.

Noting that there was need for all residents to continue to comply with preventive protocols to ensure the government totally ends the pandemic and prevent a third wave of the virus in the state, Obi reassured that the government will continue to step up measures to contain the pandemic and protect citizens.

“You must continue to wear your facemask when in public; wash your hands regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers and observe social distancing,” he charged.

The Incident Manager further charged residents with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.
