BENIN CITY – The Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDHIC) has commenced operation with the assessment of health care facilities enrollees under the Scheme

The Commission, which commenced operation enrollment into the scheme since February 19, 2021 has successfully enrolled 29,800 principals and dependents in the Formal Sector and 9,950 vulnerable into the Equity plan to access quality health care.

Also, the commission has engaged 24 public and private healthcare facilities, in Ikpoba -Okha, Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas, to provide quality healthcare services to enrollees that have been assigned under them.

Meanwhile, the commission has embarked on the payment of capitation to the accredited facilities in order for them to begin service delivery.

Under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), the commission has also collaborated with NHIS to accredit Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) across the 18 Local Government Areas.

So far, 147 PHCs have been accredited to provide health care services to vulnerable persons in the State.
