BENIN CITY – As part of operation “Clean-up Edo,” the state Waste Management Board has embarked on a sensitization rally aimed at educating residents on the need to keep their environment clean.

Addressing residents, the General Manager of the Board, Mr. Osadebamen Charles Imariagbe urged residents to stop dumping refuse in unauthorised places, including walkways, undeveloped plots and road median.

He said that the state government was making sure that Edo is litter free and advised the residents to use only government accredited waste managers for evacuating their waste.

The rally took off from the premises of the National Museum, Oba Ovonramen Square, through Oba Market Road, Mission Road, New Lagos Road, New Benin Market, Federal Road, Upper Mission extension, Aduwawa tomatoes market, Ramat Park in Ikpoba hill, Sokponba Road and terminated in Sapele Road, all in Benin City.

During the rally, commercial drivers were admonished to provide waste baskets in their vehicles to enable passengers dump their litters.

They were also admonished to desist from throwing waste out of their moving vehicles, as such act could lead to accident.

Residents were however advised to report anyone disposing waste indiscriminately to the State Waste Management Board.
