OWERRI : A middle age man believed to be a gay suspect has been reportedly killed in Nkume community in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo state.

The incident was said to have occurred on January 3,2022 in broad daylight.

Information scooped up by our correspondent in Owerri, said the suspect simply identified as Charles and his partner, Onwuegbucuulem Ikemsinachi Nixon,an indigene of the community were allegedly caught in the act at a local hotel in the area .

The two gay suspects were said to have requested for a room after having drinks in the hotel bar. A hotel attendant who had seen them kissed passionately, then drew the attention of the manager to the misdemeanour of the suspects.
The manager reportedly raised the alarm which attracted some persons to the hotel.

” One of the suspects was caught while the second one escaped through the window,” our sources said.

“However, things turned fatal for the suspect as irate youths in the community started beating and stoning him. He was badly wounded and eventually bled to death “, our correspondent further learnt.

Meanwhile, the police in Imo state and members of the local vigilante have reportedly launched a man hunt for his fleeing partner, Onwuegbucuulem Ikemsinachi Nixon.

The leader of the vigilante in Owerri, Chief Paulinus Azuka told our correspondent that his men have been directed to fish out the suspect with a view to bringing him to justice.

” We have received the report that a man who chose to live like an animal was allegedly caught but later died. Our men have been directed to go after his partner because we must rid Imo state of criminals of all shades and colours”, he said.

Homosexuality or same -sex relationship is considered a taboo and strictly forbidden in across the communities in Nigeria. It’s also a criminal offence , and anyone convicted is liable to spend between 10 to 14 years in prison.
