BENIN CITY – THE much awaited first Edition of the South-South Zone Para-Powerlifting Championship will today kick off at the main bowl of Samuel Ogbemudia International Stadium, Benin City, the Edo State Capital.

The six states championship which comprises of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River billed for three days is sponsored by the immediate past Chairman of Edo State Para-Powerlifting association, Mr. Osawaru Ogbeide-Ihama.

According to the Local Organising Comitee(LOC), Chairman Mr. Benjamin Ehineboh, the Epoch-making sporting events is open for twenty categories of ten each between male and female Para-Powerlifters.

He disclosed that the sponsor of the Para-Powerlifting championship Mr Osawaru Ogbeide-Ihama have put in place free hotel reservations for the participating states, just as he assured that all modalities have been put in place towards ensuring a successful championship.

Ehineboh commended the sponsor of the championship for his drive and unflinching supports for the Para-Powerlifting game particularly in the Edo which according to him would no doubt promote, encourage, expose Para-Powerlifters and as well removing the youths from the street.

In a telephone conversation with OBSERVERsports yesterday, the sponsor Mr. Osawaru Ogbeide-Ihama said that his passion to improving the sport and developing humanity which is in line with the state government vision to reposition Edo as number one in sports in Nigeria informed his decision to sponsor the championship.

He however admonished the participating states to be of good manners, compete favourably with their counterpart and play by the rules of the game.

Meanwhile as at the time of filing this report some states contigents have arrived Benin City for the championship.
