A man identified as Agbontaen Osas has reportedly been declared wanted by the Edo state police command after he knocked down a pedestrian who attempted to cross the ever busy Ekehuan road in Benin city ,Edo state .
The victim of the fatal accident ,according to information made available to the Nigerian Observer was a male casualty who at the time of this report had been confirmed dead at an undisclosed hospital where he was immediately rushed to for urgent medical attention.
An eye witness who gave his name as Chidi said a white Camry car with no registration number was on top speed along the busy Ekehuan road when suddenly the pedestrian hurriedly attempted to cross and was knocked down.
The driver of the car ,one Agbontaen Osas was said to be driving alone on top speed when he knocked down the victim with his car and was immediately rounded up a crowd of angry sympathizers who rushed to the scene to rescue the victim who was lying lifeless in his pool of blood before the arrival of the police.
According to the eyewitness, the crowd angrily pounced on the driver of the Toyota Camry but for the timely arrival of the police, he was whisked away by the police and his car impounded.
Meanwhile, the murder suspect who was being investigated for murder ,according to the police was driving on April 20, 2008 in a white Toyota Camry without a driver’s license when the accident occurred knocking down an unidentified pedestrian who died on the spot.
A statement made available to journalists in Benin city by the police command stated that Agbontaen Osas 34 years of age who was later released pending the outcome of investigation had disappeared as he has since not reported himself at the police station ever after the accident.
The statement therefore urged well meaning individuals in the state with useful information that could lead to his arrest to come forward for a handsome reward .
It therefore added the fleeing Agbontaen Osas whose whereabouts remain unknown has been declared wanted by the police
