BENIN CITY: A young man identified as Efosa Austin Osayamwen in Benin city is on the run after he narrowly escaped death in the hands of Irate members of his community over his involvement in the indecent and sacrilegious act of same-sex affairs with another man.

The same-sex suspect, it was learnt,was saved by the timely arrival of the policemen who dispersed the crowd of angry mob before taking him away to the police station where he was detained before his eventual release.

The Nigerian Observer gathered from a family source who pleaded anonymity that the secret bi-sexual life of the young man was exposed in May 2009 by his fiancée with whom he was planning marriage.

According to the source, fleeing suspect who had been involved in same-sex affairs with male partners in the community was unusually attracted to people of his sexuality, a problem which was said to have started in his high school as he was caught in the act with another male friend.

The family source hinted that before the incident leading to the mob attack, his father and family members publicly disapproved of the abominable act as it was said that a sacrilege which desecrated the land had been committed by their son.

It was learnt that his fiancee who saw lewd pictures and messages between him and his lover raised alarm by informing her family, a situation which according to the source ended the relationship between them.

Meanwhile, it is said that after his release from detention, he ran away from the community to an undisclosed location for fear of being attacked again by the mob who threatened to lynch him for desecrating the community.
