BENIN CITY- The renewed cult war in Benin City, Edo State on July 7, 2012 claimed the life of an aged woman, one, Mrs. Edoghogho Robert, the mother of Ogbe Ikponmwosa, whose residence was allegedly razed down by suspected dreaded Supreme Eiye Confraternity members who report said were in search of their rival target, Mr. Ogbe.

It was scooped that the now on the run Ogbe belongs to the group known as Neo Black Movement of Africa (NBM), otherwise known as ‘Black Axe’ Confraternity, a rival cult group with Eiye.

According to eyewitness account, trouble started for Ogbe when his wife one Blessing Ogbe was allegedly robbed and raped at gun point by members of the Eiye Confraternity sometime ago, and the subsequent arrest of two of the boys by the police.

The eyewitness revealed further that a Police officer (name withheld) allegedly informed the two arrested robbers and rape suspects that Ogbe was responsible for their arrest, hence, the Eiye members declared war on Ogbe

Speaking with our Crime Correspondent on the issue, an eyewitness who simply identified herself as Stella narrated that four armed boys suspected to be members of the Eiye Confraternity in a commando-like-style stormed residence of the father of Ogbe, one Mr. Robert Ikponmwosa, in search of his son (Ogbe Ikponmwosa).

She said: “On July 7, 2012, at about 12:00 noon, four Eiye cult members armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded the house of Mr. Robert Ikponmwosa, father of Ikponmwosa Ogbe.

“The armed Eiye members who were visibly angered by the non availability of Ogbe at home started shooting sporadically into the air in a bid to scare residents of the area away before setting Mr. Ikponmwosa’s house ablaze.

“Unfortunately, Ogbe’s mother Mrs. Edoghogho Robert, who was inside the house sleeping was burned to death by the fire”, she said.

Stella stated that the Eiye members while leaving the scene of crime vowed to eliminate Ogbe wherever they set their eyes on him, a situation she averred could be responsible for the disappearance of Ogbe into unknown destination.

Contacted, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations, ASP, Usman Bello, while confirming the incident said that the command has declared Ogbe Ikponmwosa wanted in connection with the incident

Bello who said that from a reliable source, the command was informed that the fleeing Ogbe is a member of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, AKA, ‘Black Axe’ said that about seven persons have been arrested by the police in connection with the ugly incident.
