The Militant Islamist group, Boko Haram has abducted a Huma Bus belonging to a popular transport company in Edo State and burnt it along the Maiduguri Road in Northern Nigeria.
It was gathered by Newsmen that the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the bus and the whereabout of the passengers, including the driver was unknown as at press time.
However, sources close to the management of the transport company, Osa’s Motors disclosed that the Huma Bus with the driver identified as Monday Asuelimen was chartered in Kano by some persons who claimed they were going for a marriage ceremony on June 20th, 2013.
It was further learnt that the driver was overpowered by the men who were members of the Boko Haram sect and on their way they diverted the bus to the Maiduguri highway and into a bush path where the bus was found burnt by the terrorists.
Meanwhile, the owner of Osa’s Motors has declared the bus driver wanted.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Benin City, the transport company disclosed that the whereabout of their driver is still unknown and an appeal was made to the security agencies to as a matter of urgency intervene to rescue him from the hands of the terrorists if he is still alive.
They also call on anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of the driver to report to the company or the nearest police station.
It would be recalled that there have been series of attacks on innocent citizens, churches, school children with more than 253 people in the Northen part of the country killed.
According to Human Rights Watch, “the January 20, 2012 attacks in the Northern City of Kano left at least 185 Police and residents dead, resulting in the highest death toll in a single day since Boko Haram began its violent campaign in July 2009. More than 935 people have been killed in some 164 suspected attacks by the group during this period.”
