LAGOS – The Nigeria Police have recorded another plus in the fight against homosexuality with the arrest of 38 gay suspects after a raid of different hideouts in Lagos and its metropolis.
The suspects, it was gathered were among the 167 homosexuals named by those arrested so far.
Information on the exact locations they were arrested was still sketchy as at Press time.
Some of the suspects said that they were members of a cartel spread across various states of the federation, especially Lagos, Abuja and some other states where homosexuality thrives.
According to them, the system is such that “You don’t even know the overall boss except those person you are relating with.
They named one Endurance Emuen, a hairdresser and a musician as leader of the Lagos State chapter of the homosexual cartel.
A legal practitioner, Olabisi Olumide, in a chat with newsmen said that the gay suspects, when convicted, risk between 10 – 14years jail term, in line with the Same Sex Prohibition Act recently ascented to by President Goodluck Jonathan.
With the law, it becomes an offense for anyone (male and female) to engage in homosexuality.
The law also criminalises homosexuality clubs, association, organization and meetings.
Since the signing into law of the bill, it has received praises, mainly from African countries, even though it drew international condemnations from countries, such as United States of America, Britain and Canada.
To many Nigerians, the law is a welcome development which is capable of reviving the culture of the people that has been on the downward side.
