BENIN CITY — The Edo State Police Command have declared eight persons wanted. The wanted persons, according to a statement released to newsmen at the State Police Headquarters, were alleged to be the masterminds of the recent violent protest by students of Auchi Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State, over the astronomical increase in school fees by the government.
The statement which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, DSP Abiodun Osifo gave the names of the wanted persons as John Izobo, Ewemade Philip, Oshomah Abu, Ifada Kingsley, Emeke Chika, Osaro Ifaluyi, Abudu Osifo and Usman Sadiq
It was gathered that the increment in tuition fees by the government angered the entire students who took to the campus and streets in Auchi to protest on March 18 2014
It was also gathered that the protest was severe in Engineering Department, where it allegedly started, the Engineering Department was vandalism and destroyed before the police were called in to quell the riot. The police shot and killed one of the students in the process. Angered at the killing of one of their own, the students went straight to the police station and seriously beat and injured a policeman.
The school authority closed down the school to avert further loss of lives.The police later declared John Izobo, Ewemade, Philip, Oshomah Abu, Ifada Kingsley, Emeke China, Osaro Ifaluyi, Abudu Osifo and Usman Sadiq wanted. These wanted persons are believed to be the ring leaders of the protest.
The whereabouts of these wanted is unknown.Also, a handsome reward will be given to anybody with useful information that could lead to the capture of these wanted persons.
