A 65 years old man Akighbe John has been lynched by an angry mob in Uromi in what many see as a move to avenge the death on an earlier murder committed by the deceased son Akighbe Lucky who has been on the police wanted list.

Eye witnesses account said the mob constituting fierce looking youths clutching dangerous weapons including clubs, machete and knives had stormed Akighbe John’s residence chanting war songs saying they were out to seek justice over the cold blooded murder of their brother Akinoba Okosun by the fleeing son of Akighbe John.

Before killing Akighbe John, the mob was said to have dragged him on the ground to the village square in a practical show of disdain to his humanity and their willingness to spill his blood to clense the land of the curse his son Lucky had allegedly visited on it with the shooting and killing of pa Okosun.

The rampaging youth would have done more damage save for the quick intervention of the police who despassed them before taking Akighbe John to Irrua Specialist Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.

The deceased shock stricken wife whose son (Lucky Akighbe) the community had earlier placed a curse upon and banished from the communityit was learnt, unable to stand the shock became a psychological wreck and died of hypertension related illness a few days later.

The police has however commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Akighbe John with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book. The police disclosed that some suspects linked with the crime had been arrested and were helping the police in their investigations.

The police therefore warned residents against the temptation of resorting to self help in seeking justice over a perceived wrong done to them, stressing that the State Police Command was out to apply the law fully against such offenders.
