Tragedy struck on July 10th 2014 at Nomayo street off Upper Sakponba road Benin city when unknown gunmen suspected to be hired assassins allegedly murdered in cold blood one Mr.Omoregbe Atekha Monday ,58, and his son Omoregbe Osaro ,34 , for reasons yet to be made known.

The Nigerian Observer was reliably informed that the gunmen in their numbers stormed the residence of Mr.Omoregbe Monday on the said day shooting sporadically in the air to scare residents who scampered for safety as they hurriedly headed straight into the apartment after gaining access into the building.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Nigerian Observer that the gunmen came in a fast moving car shooting indiscriminately.

According to the source , the murdered Mr.Omoregbe Monday , a grassroot politician in the community, was reported to have been deeply enmeshed in series of poblems including unresolved family issues which had been threatening to tear the family apart.

It was further gathered that prior to the attack Mr.Omoregbe Monday was confronted by members of his extended family over unresolved family issues during which threats were made as family members brazenly engaged in open confrontations with him at his house.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Observer was reliably informed that the deceased Mr.Omoregbe at the grassroot level of politics in the community notoriously known for all forms of criminality owing to the high population of different cult groups, was in support of candidate for councillorship election at his ward .

It was also gathered that his support for his preferred candidate for councillorship election which was strongly opposed by other members who vowed to resist his imposition of an anointed candidate on the party could have been the reason for his murder by the unknown gunmen.

The family of Omoregbe in Benin city have urged the police to unravel the killers of Mr Omoregbe Monday and his son Omoregbe Osaro adding that the killers must be brought to justice for perpetrating this heinous crimes against humanity.

The family further urged the police to help in ascertaining the whereabouts of the other surviving son of Omoregbe Monday, Omoregbe Aimuaemwonsa who has since not been seen after the gruesome murder of his father and his brother as his whereabouts remain unknown.
