Igbanke – Some members of Igbanke community in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state have expressed worries over the sudden disappearance of an indigene of the community, Lucky Okoro.

They maintained that since the demise of his father who belonged to a dreaded occultic group in Nigeria known as Osokpikan Society, Lucky Okoro, his wife and kid are no where to be found as calls to his mobile phone number did not connect.

According to them, Lucky Okoro disappeared with his family while the burial of his late father was being planned in March of 2013.

“most people belong to Osokpikan society; their members are everywhere in Nigeria, and even Lucky’s great great grand fathers were members who initiated their eldest son to join and continue with the group when they passed away.

“We are afraid we can’t find him (Lucky Okoro) and his family for more than a year now, but we believe his disappearance is because of the Osokpikan people”, a family member told The Nigerian Observer

The family member who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that, Lucky Okoro was supposed to join Osokpikan society so as to take over his late father’s position at the occultic group’s shrine but refused.

When our correspondent visited the family house at the Igbanke community, it was gathered that before his father died, he briefed him about the Osokpikan group.

It was further gathered, the occultic group addressed a letter to Lucky Okoro after his father’s death in 2013, which he received before his disappearance.

“Those who refuse to join Osokpikan society and follow the steps of a deceased family member who was with the group before their death may end up killed or spell are cast on them”, Chief Gidu Omora, a traditionalist who understands the group’s workings told our correspondent

When contacted, the police division headquarters at Igbanke said there is no formal complain by the Okoro family.

“We got wind of the matter, but nobody has come to incident anything of such here; that has to do with the occultic group”, a senior police officer said

Members of Osokpikan society like other dreaded occultic group are organized with a strong network across Nigeria, as members are known to initiate their eldest sons into the group, so the traditional occult practice can continue in the family; mainly for protection and to retain wealth.

Some members of the group are security agents and even powerful politicians who are influencial in the society, hence it has become difficult for the government to protect anyone whose life may be in danger from the group.

It has led to many young men, mostly from the southern part of Nigeria whose parents are members of occultic groups with similar ideology to seek escape route out of the country.

Some of them who could not make it to Europe through the desert and Mediterranean sea, end up as slaves in camps, while others end up dead on the perilous journey.
