TWO security guards, Kingsley Orumo, 27, and Tobiloba Fabunmi, 26, who allegedly threatened their employer, using text messages, were on Friday docked before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, threats to life and causing breach of peace against one Mrs. Gloria Williams.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Austine Ejembi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 4 and December 8 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Sinari Daranijo St., Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ejembi said the accused threatened the life of Gloria Williams, through text messages and letters demanding N500, 000 from her.
The prosecutor said the accused told Mrs.Williams that she would lose her life if she did not comply with their demands.
Ejembi said that the accused through their conduct caused a breach of peace by causing panic to Williams.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 166 (d), 300, and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Reports state that Section 300 provides that any person who with the intent to extort or gain anything from any person, demands any property by written threat, is guilty of felony, and is liable to 14 years imprisonment.
The Counsel to the accused, Mr. Adekunle Rufai, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs. F.O. Botoku, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must have credible means of livelihood and show evidence that they were taxpayers.
Botoku adjourned the case to January 6, 2015 for trial.
