AS part of efforts to ensure that tax defaulters are brought to book, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Auchi office controlling Edo north and Central has carried out enforcement campaign to three major business centers in Auchi and Uromi in a bid to recover money owned the service.
In Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West local government, the FIRS enforcement team visited Bendel shopping center and Jovenson shopping center all along Igbe road and Presto Presidential Hotel along Warrake road in Auchi metropolis.
According to the enforcement team, Bendel and Jovenson shopping centers are being charged for non registration of their businesses thereby not remitting of Value Added Tax (VAT) to the federal government which amounted to the tune of 161 and 120 thousand naira respectively while that of Presto Presidential Hotel owns the sum of N1, 525,325, 07.
Meanwhile, Chime Okarah, the MD of Bendel shopping center and Mark Afan, the son of Jovenson shopping center were made to write letter of undertaking on how the money will be paid before they were left of the hook.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the exercise, the leader of the team Mr. Ugbijeh Stanley A. , tax Controller ( Auchi MSTO, Auchi, Edo state) said that it was the first step to be taken against any defaulters and failure to meet the agreement date will result to the sealing off their business centers and advised them to pay up whatever they own the service.
