LAGOS – The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasaq Fadipe, has warned residents and motorists against hoarding of the premium motor spirit (PMS) as a result of scarcity of the product.
He told newsmen in Lagos that the warning became necessary in order to avert the occurence of fire disaster particularly during the yuletide period.
Fadipe said that the Fire Service recorded the highest number of fire disasters during the yuletide season.
“We are in December now and from experience in the past there has always been shortage of fuel to the public.
“So people should not be tempted to keep fuel at home. Don’t keep fuel at home; don’t keep fuel in your vehicle.
“If you think you are careful while on the road what about the person coming behind you?
“What about somebody who is just overtaking and will come and hit your booth where you keep the fuel.
“So, don’t let us keep fuel at home or in the booth of our vehicles; it is very dangerous.’’
He also advised travellers to be very careful, saying that they should check their vehicle tyres, wiring systems and fire extinguisher.
The director said that motorists should always use extinguisher in the event of fire outbreak as against the use of sand or water.
