ABUJA- The PDP in Abuja has thrown its weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan on his advice to politicians against inflammatory statements ahead of the 2015 general elections.
In a statement issued by Mr Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, the party described Jonathan’s advice as a “perfect act in nationalism’’.
“It is the mark of a true leader who is committed to the interest and welfare of the nation and her citizens.’’
It would be  recalled that Jonathan had advised politicians to desist from sowing seeds of discord among the people with their utterances. ?
However, the PDP, in the statement, urged politicians “to heed this caution, show decency, patriotism and shun the do-or-die quest for power’’.
It said Jonathan “has shown as always, that he is a committed national patriotic leader and a decent politician.’’
The party said the President had also showed that he was a lover of a united, stable and prosperous Nigeria and a champion of the integrity of the nation’s electoral process.
The PDP called on Nigerians and lovers of democracy to be vigilant and close ranks to ensure that the enemies of the nation do not have their way.
It said the indivisibility of the nation was non-negotiable, adding that the PDP was committed to the unity and corporate existence of the nation.
The party further urged Nigerians to ensure that they expressed their resolve to live together as one people.
