Damaturu- The campaign organisation of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe has appealed to fleeing Damaturu residents to stay back and perform their civic duties in the February polls.
Alhaji Aji Bularafa, the Zone E Senatorial District Coordinator of the campaign organisation, made the appeal in Damaturu after the inauguration of the committee.
Bularafa noted that the mass movement of the people from the state would have negative consequences on the forthcoming elections.
Meanwhile, an Islamic cleric, Muhammad Degubi, has urged the Yobe Government to introduce measures that would reassure fleeing residents of adequate security.
He told Governor Gaidam when he visited Izala mosque destroyed recently by insurgents.
According to him, the exodus of people to neighboring states has taken its toll on socio-economic activities in the state.
Reports  state that Damaturu , the Yobe capital has recorded exodus of residents following two heavy attacks on the capital within five weeks.
Malam Salihu Abubakar, a fleeing resident, said he was moving his family out of the state because of the renewed attacks on the city by insurgents.
An auto mechanic, Yakubu Ali, said:“I have also evacuated my family to another state for safety.”
