defectorsEHOR – With barely five weeks to the 2015 general election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has continued to witness loss of members as some chieftains of the party in Uhunmwode Local Government Area on Sunday dumped the party for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Receiving the defectors led by Hon. Justin Omoruyi, the Edo Sate Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu described their decision to dump PDP for the APC as ‘quite gratifying; adding that it has further increased the APC chances of winning next month’s general elections in the state.
He said the APC is an all inclusive participatory party, irrespective of whether old or new members.
Dr. Odubu maintained that the party would continue to encourage equal opportunity for all such ideals so that the people would continue to have a feel and participate in the party’s activities.
“The characters I saw coming into the APC are the people that we have always worked together since 80s.  What happened today (Sunday) is very reassuring that Uhunmwode is 99.9 percent APC”, stated the Deputy Governor.
“I thank the leader of the local government, Hon. Charles Idahosa for his effort at bringing them (the decampees) back.   Their defection has further lightened the burden of APC winning next elections,” he added.
On the nominated candidates for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections, the Deputy Governor pointed out that they were tested on the basis of wealth of experience and competence to deliver the people from the shankles of poverty.
“Over five hundred PDP leaders from across the local government have just joined the APC; this is even without their follower, and with this, it  is over for the PDP in the local government,”, said Idahosa.
