GOMBE- Ahead of the PDP and APC presidential campaigns in Gombe, the Police have banned the operation of motorcycles in Gombe metropolis for four days to ensure peaceful rallies in the state.
The reports state that President Goodluck Jonathan is scheduled to hold his re-election campaign on Monday, while APC’s flag bearer’s train, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, is expected in the state on Tuesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Gombe command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, made this known to newsmen in Gombe.
He said the ban was to ensure that the police monitor the operations of the motorcyclists in the state.
The spokesman explained that the measure was taken following the use of motorcycles by unscrupulous persons to commit crime.
Atajiri explained that the ban would take effect Sunday (February 1) evening through on February 4.
“The ban is in consideration of what is happening in the state; you are aware that unscrupulous elements use motorcycles to kill people and commit all kinds of atrocities in the state.
