Malammadori (Jigawa)- A Jigawa-Based Non-Governmental organisation (NGO), Water Consumers Association, said it has constructed 28 ventilated latrines in the Malammadori Local Government Council Area of the state.
The association’s Secretary, Malam Muhammad Dodo, said at an environmental sanitation sensitisation exercise in Malammadori that the toilets were constructed at Malammadori and Garun-Gabas markets to check open defecation.
He said the association had also provided 10 hand pumps and two over tanks to various communities to enhance access to safe drinking water.
Dodo listed Dunari, Malammadori, Kampala and Bare-Bari as some of the benefiting communities.
“We have also constructed animal water points as part of efforts to encourage livestock production,’’ he said.
Dodo explained that the association had also conducted waste evacuation and drains clearance exercise in the area.
The secretary said the association was also sensitising communities on waste management and the need to keep their environment clean.
He said the projects were executed in collaboration with a donor agency called Mobilisation for Development.
