BENIN CITY – The Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration to the Edo State Governor, Hon. Frank Okiye has warned politicians across the country not to endanger the lives of the people before, during and after the forthcoming general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11, 2015 respectively.
Hon. Okiye, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Esan North East Local Government Area made this warning, weekend in Benin City while reacting to the recent spurious attack on the people of Rivers State during a rally by APC, Rivers State APC, River State Chapter, in Okrika Local Government Area, the local government of origin of the wife of the president, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, last Tuesday.
The attack left in its trail several innocents persons, including security personnel while injured and others dead.
He said that politics is not a do-or-die affair and nobody should be sacrificed unjustly to achieve an inordinate objectives by some persons.
According to Okiye, the former Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly, the ways and manners APC members were abruptly attacked during the governorship campaign rally is undemocratic, naive, callous and an act that is politically motivated in view of the large supporters of APC in the state which has posed a serious threat to the opposition, party, the PDP.
Hon. Okiye, said that he attributed the persistent violence to failed system of the Federal Government and the practical demonstration of lack of confidence in the institution that is saddled with the responsibility to dispense justice and equity to the people.
He however called on security agencies in the state, especially the police to carry out thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
He urged politicians across the country to see themselves as one family, irrespective of ethnic and political party affiliations, while pursuing a cause of good governance.
The Uromi born politicians therefore called the people in his constituency to be courageous not to allow their conscience to be eroded by temporary gains and inducements as the time for change has come and that is the forthcoming elections, Okiye urged them to vote for positive change of the APC for adequate representation.
