MAIDUGURI – Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has terminated his ongoing political campaigns to the Southern part of the state following multiple bomb blasts in Maiduguri, the State capital.
The termination is contained in a statement issued in Maiduguri yesterday by his Special Adviser on Communications, Mr. Isa Gusau.
According to the statement, the governor decided to call off the campaign tour in southern part of the state sequel to the bomb explosions which affected parts of Maiduguri.
“Shettima was visibly troubled by the unfortunate bomb blast which came at a time citizens of Borno were already adjusting to normal lives due to the successes being recorded by the combined efforts of the military, other security agencies and youth volunteers.”
“The governor condemns the attacks in strong terms and those who perpetuated them, while condoling with families and friends of those that lost their lives and commiserated with those who sustained injuries,” the statement disclosed.
It added that the governor, who was in Hawul Local Government Area earlier on Sunday, restrained the APC from making further campaign speeches.
The statement also said the governor led prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims of the blast.
It however stated that the governor later launched a free feeding programme to ease hardships faced by residents in the local government area, arising from the activities of insurgents in the areas.
