Ituoke (Bayelsa)-  President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday urged Nigerian voters to eschew violence following the initial failure of the card reader to recognise his and wife’s Permanent voter Cards (PVCs).
Jonathan made the call in ward 13, unit 39, Otabla, Otuoke in Bayelsa during the accreditation.
The president, who spent more than 20 minutes without being accredited due to the card reader’s failure to authenticate his PVC, urged voters to be calm.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Kayode Idowu, said the commission was aware of the card reader’s rejection of Jonathan and wife’s PVCs.
“We are aware of the issue and we are addressing it,’’ Idowu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Mr Baritor Kpagih, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, regretted the incident.
He said that the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had directed that the President and wife should be accredited manually
