LAGOS – The Prelate of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement, Most Rev. Lazarus Onyeleonu, on Sunday commended Nigerians for the  peaceful elections of March 28.
Nigerians voted in Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28.
Onyeleonu, in his goodwill message to mark Easter Sunday at the National Wilderness Prayer ground of the Order, along the Badagry expressway, Lagos, commended the peaceful mood of the elections.
According to him, the level of commitment and the turnout of voters during the elections also showed the rising level of patriotism in the country.
The cleric congratulated the president-elect, Mohammad Buhari and lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for the maturity he exhibited in conceding defeat.
“We congratulate the President-elect, Gen Mohammad Buhari for his victory in the elections.
“I ask him to be magnanimous in victory, as well as fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Nigeria.
“I also commend President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, thereby dousing the tension in the polity.
“He is a real hero and has written his name in gold in the annals of election history, not only in Nigeria and Africa, but the world over.”
Onyeleonu urged Nigerians to show love to one another and live in unity as exhibited by Jesus Christ.
“As we bask in the euphoria of our March 28 elections, I urge you all to use this opportunity to pray for the same grace in subsequent elections and to live as one.
“As Christ has shown us this magnitude of love, even when we are his enemies, we owe it as a duty to love all.
“More importantly, we should love our country above everything because it is only this show of patriotism that is the difference between a rich and a poor country.
“Selfishness has made people to indulge in looting and other corrupt practices — which hinder development of the country — thereby plunging the average citizen into poverty and hardship,” he said.
