Lagos – The chairman, Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, has directed all members of the union to come out enmasse on Saturday 11th April, 2015 and vote for Mr. Akinwunmi Amobode, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all the party’s candidates for the House of Assembly.
Agbede who gave the directive yesterday while addressing branch officers from all the 120 branches of the union drawn from all the 57 local councils in Lagos during the monthly meeting of the union at their Abule Egba office directed that all commuter bus drivers, motorcycle operators and tricycle owners (Keke Marwa) under the umbrella of the union in the state must vote APC candidates in the 11th April elections.
He said members of the union must support the APC because the people of Lagos have really enjoyed dividends of democracy and good governance; hence the need to show solidarity with the party, explaining that some of the policies of the present administration in the state had helped to boost transport business.
Alhaji Agbede who emphasized that the introduction of transport radio has helped to reduce traffic congestion and loss of time in traffic added, “Also, the constant repair and maintenance of roads have helped to reduce wear and tear of vehicles”.
“The state government usually responds by fixing bad roads through it agencies. This has really helped to reduce wear and tear on our vehicles. And this has also helped to reduce the number of days we visit mechanics, hence our decision to support the party for continuity in the state,” Agbede stated.
He reiterated that the state council of the union under his leadership will continue to support the government of the state, saying “We are partners in progress with the government, hence the directive to members to reciprocate the gesture of the party during the 11 April governorship election by voting Ambode and all APC House of Assembly candidates.
