WARRI – It was a gloomy Tuesday, when tragedy struck at the weekend in Ugbuwange Community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, when a 21 year old girl stabbed her younger brother to death over argument about domestic chores.
The incident which sent shivers down the spines of residents, a predominantly Itsekiri occurred at about about mid day.
The deceased,identified as Laju Ogbe,17 years and student of Yowunren College, Warri met his untimely death, in the hands of his elder, Omasan Ogbe who stabbed him to death after argument about cleaning the dishes went awry.
Omasan who neighbours said was a known tomboy had always had issues with her younger brother about daily domestic chores.
NIGERIAN OBSERVER learnt that on the fateful day,quarrel led to a fisticuffs until hell was let loose with the boy allegedly throwing the sister who eventually chased him round the compound before seizing a knife from the kitchen and allegedly stabbing her younger in the chest.
Before the argument reached a boiling point and degenerated into a fierce fight, Omasan was said to have directed the younger brother to do the dishes, but the boy reportedly refused claiming that he had fetched water into the drums in the house and was too tired to wash up the dishes.
The boy thereafter screamed for help, the family source said, and neighbours, who were not initially alarmed at what they considered the siblings quarrels, eventually rushed the victim to the Central Hospital Warri.
However, the victim, said to be the only male child of the family, was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty apparently because he had lost too much blood.
The father of Omasan and Laju died about ten yens ago leaving heir mother to fend for the entire family alone.
Omasan was said to have attempted to run away when the gravity of her angry action dawned on her by was caught and handed over to the police.
The family source recounted the ordeal: “He fell to the ground, started screaming, and calling for help before people rushed to the house to attempt to help the boy. These kinds of fight and quarrel have been a very common in the home, but this particular just got out of hand. They have always fought and settled.”
Meanwhile, Delta State Police Command spokeswoman, Celestina Kalu (DSP), confirmed the incident, saying the police have already commenced investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the remains of Laju have been laid to rest in front of his father’s house in Ugbuwangue.
