Today something new is about to happen in Nigeria. For most people it is a transition from one political party to another; for others it is the celebration of change; may be a change from one President to another or change from the ruling party to the opposition party. Whichever way one may look at it, I want to announce to Nigerians that it is indeed a new dawn, a new era, a new beginning, and indeed, a new chapter for all Nigerians.
For the past three months, Nigeria has experienced what St. John of the Cross describes as dark night.  After squandering the national fund in election, almost everything in Nigeria seems to be static. Nothing is moving. Most of the contracts are suspended; some are even abandoned completely. Most of the states and local government are not able to pay salaries to their workers. Electrical power has become a mirage as most people are now used to generators. Fuel scarcity gradually became the order of the day. The bankers and other civil servants went on holidays because of fuel scarcity. Even those who were not interested in the so called ‘change’ were forced to pray for change.
Today is the long expected day! There were so many speculations concerning this day, May 29, 2015. While so many people are very optimistic that the coming government will launch the expected change as soon as possible others are still feeling pessimistic given the global financial meltdown and the drastic fall fuel prize. The outgoing administrator came up with transformation agenda, apart from the famous cry for change and the fight against corruption, today the incoming government will launch their own political agenda.
Who knows if this agenda will not end up becoming one of those agendas? This is not the first time Nigeria is experiencing transition from one government to another. Almost all the government that comes to power has their own wonderful agenda. At the end of these regimes we end up going back to square one. The best, they say, is yet to come. Only God knows when Nigeria will get to its promised land.
From my own assessment, only the Almighty God can bring the expected change and transformation in this nation. The psalmist declares, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2). Again, Psalm 118:8-9 declares, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.” Indeed, “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1). With God all things are possible!
Human beings may fail at any time but God can never fail. The change we are celebrating today was long promised by the Most High God. The Lord said through the prophet Isaiah, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18-19). Change and transformation comes from the Lord.
It is indeed a new era for Nigerians! The old things have passed away. As a new regime is being inaugurated today all the ugly experiences must end today. When Moses saw the angry Egyptians matching forward to attack the Israelites, he assured his fellow Israelites, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see no more. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still” (Exodus 14:13-14). I am here to announce this same good news to my fellow Nigerians – you have nothing to fear. After all, clear conscience fears no allegation. From this day, you shall see the salvation of the Lord.
The Egyptians represent the enemies of this nation. They represent the ugly experiences in the last regime. Thus, the Boko Haram you see today, you shall see no more! The insurgencies you experienced in this nation, you shall experience them no more. The corruption you see today, you shall see no more. The embezzlement of public fund you see today, you shall see no more. The ringing of election you see today, you shall see no more. The poverty and famine you experienced in this nation you shall experience no more. The constant power failure you experience in Nigeria, you shall experience no more; even the lack of faith you experience in Nigeria you shall see no more…
The Lord will fight for you! Really, the Lord has fought for Nigeria and He will continue to fight for this nation. If not for Divine intervention by now Nigeria would have been in war because of the just concluded election. God took the world by surprise. While the entire world were expecting war in Nigeria, even Americans were ready to evacuate their citizens as soon as the war starts but God proved to the whole world that He is the one in charge of Nigeria. He used President Good luck Jonathan to calm the troubled sea.
Fellow Nigerians, God will continue to fight for us. He will fight all the corrupt leaders in this nation. He will fight all those who are collecting bribes and those who are embezzling the public fund of this nation. He will fight all the lecturers that are taking bribes from their students and all those who are sleeping with their students for grade. The Lord God will fight all the journalists who are partisans. He will fight the governors that huddling local government allocations. He will fight all those who are using wood and nails to steal in the name of revenue collection. The Lord will fight all those who are kidnapping their fellow human beings for ransom. He will fight all the leaders who have failed to pay the salaries of their workers. Even the police and other security agencies that are collecting bribe will not go unpunished this time around.
God will fight all those who are using the name of God to steal from their fellow human beings. He will fight all the men of God who are eating the tithe that belongs to orphans, widows and less privileged. God will fight all the traditional rulers who are oppressing their subjects. He will fight all the judges and lawyers who are denying people of their right and justice. The Lord will fight all those who are sacking workers and who are reducing labour force in name of privatization. He will fight the cultists and ritualists in this nation. He will fight all the nations that are trying to bring Nigeria dawn. Fellow Nigerians, God has come to fight for you. All you need to do is to remain calm and prayerful.
God has marked out plans and strategies on how to save you and this great nation. He says, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile” (Jeremiah 29:11-14). This plan is for our country Nigeria!
God has promised to restore the future of this great nation. With God on our side, there is hope! There is hope for the unemployed youths. There is hope for the pensioners. There is hope for aged in this nation. There is hope for the students of this great nation. There is hope for the orphans and widows. There is hope for the sick and the oppressed. There is hope for those on awaiting trials. There is hope for nursing mothers. There is hope for barren women. Indeed, there is hope for you!
God has come to restore this great nation. He has come to restore our fallen heroes. He has come to restore our currency. He has come to restore our refineries. God has come to restore our agricultural sectors. He has come to restore our unity and freedom. God has promised to bring back our children who are trooping out of Nigeria on daily basis looking for greener pastures outside. He has come to restore and our political, economic and religious values. He has come to restore our pride and our dignity as a nation. To him be glory and praise forever and ever – Amen. HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY!
