ABUJA – The Centre for Management Development (CMD), Abuja, has announced plans to aggressively embark on the development of human capital needed for further education of trainers in electronic-government (e-government).
Dr Kabir Usman, Director-General of CMD, told newsmen that the centre would collaborate with some management institutes in hosting the train the trainers programme.
Usman said that the trainers expected from the public and private sectors would be exposed to the various electronic management platforms like e-learning, e-payment, e-passport, e-migration and e-budgeting.
“We in the CMD felt that e-government programme, with the advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is a useful programme that instills elements of accountability, transparency and accessibility,’’ he said
Usman said that e-government was imperative in governance as it contributed in the drastic reduction of corruption in the nation’s public service.
He said e-government was part of ICT contribution in the delivery of government’s policies, programmes and projects.
“e-government is about e-learning, e-payment, e-passport, e-migration and e-budgeting because it will minimise contact between the public and civil servants.
“It gives opportunities for more productivity and less access to corruption.
“We feel that it is going to be a very useful tool to instill some elements of discipline and enhance productivity in the public service,’’ he said.
Usman, who earlier led a 29-man delegation for e-government programme in South Korea, said the participants were expected to train thousands of civil servants at the end of the programme.
He said the idea was to ensure speed, transparency, choice, accountability and accessibility in the public service.
“Three years ago, we embarked on massive investment in ICT infrastructure so that there will be a platform for having a robust access to internet.”
