Operatives of the Nigeria Police in Edo State, have declared one Frank Osemwengie Oviasuyi (m) and eleven (11) others wanted over their alleged involvement in gay practices and lesbianism.

Others declared wanted by the Police are Bayo Dede (m), Rabiu Festus (m), Obi Jege (m), Rita Odeh (f), Ogidi Beauty (f), Monday Zion(m ), Joyce Bukazi (f), Rose Osayuwase (f), Moses Edu (M), Ramson Osa –Joe (m) and Mike Osato (m).

Briefing journalists in Benin City, the Police image-maker in the state, DSP Nkombe Moses, said that the command in collaboration with the Department of State Security (DSS) following an intelligent report busted homosexual spot somewhere in GRA, Benin City on May 11, 2015 where seven suspects were arrested.

He said: Police tactical team with the aid of Department of State Security (DSS) acting on an intelligent report on the 11th of May, 2015 raided the Gay and Lesbian spot located around GRA, Benin City Edo State.

“Seven suspects were arrested in connection with their involvement in homosexual practices while others fled the scene on sighting the police”.

Our Crime Correspondent gathered that one of the prime suspect arrested during the raid Mavis Edoji, confessed Frank and other fleeing suspects as their homosexual syndicates.

DSP Moses, however, appealed to members of the public who may have useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing gay and lesbian suspects to approach the nearest security formation in the Country, assuring that such information would be treated in strict confidentiality.

It would be recall that the increasingly rate of homosexuality in Nigeria which has caused serious concern to the generality of the people, eventually led to the law promulgated by the Federal Government to proscribed up to 14 years or more imprisonment for offenders.

By the law which was accented to by President, Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, January 13, 2014 viewed same-sex, gay marriage, homosexuality and membership of gay rights groups as serious criminal offence in Nigeria, as well as further defying Western pressure over gay rights.

Homosexuality is also viewed as taboo and prohibited sternly in Nigerian communities as they often than not proscribe stiffer penalties that include stoning to death of anyone caught in the act.
