LAGOS -The Lagos state House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to provide Health Management Agency and state health scheme for all residents of the state.
Presenting the bill for debate, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, who stood in for the speaker, explained that the agency shall be a corporate body with perpetual succession and common seal, may sue and be sued in its corporate name. He added that the agency may acquire, hold or dispose moveable property or immoveable property for the purpose of performing its functions under the law.
He added that there is established Lagos State Health Management Board which he said shall have general control of the agency.
In the same vein, the chairman Lagos Assembly Committee on Health, Hon Suru Avoseh, said the scheme shall apply to residents of the state, all employees in public and private sectors including self-employed and unemployed.
On the formal health plan, he disclosed “There shall be contributory plan for all public and private sector employees where the employer and employees shall make contributions as determined by the Board, adding that the scheme shall be compulsory and apply to all residents of the state that are not covered by an existing health scheme.
