BENIN CITY – Primary school pupils in Edo State have been enjoined to make judicious use of the educational facilities provided for them by government through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) projects.
The Executive Director, MDGs, Princess Theresa Erediauwa gave the admonition during a chat with newsmen in Benin City.
She called on the various benefiting communities and school’s management to checkmate the negative activities of pupils and put appropriate measures in place to ensure MDGs projects are not vandalized and stolen, stressing that they should instill the culture of discipline in the children.
According to her, Edo State MDGs Office had given attention to the various thematic areas of the Millennium Development Goals, including education which is goal 2.
She explained that so much had been done in the areas of construction, renovation and equipping of schools with a view to ensuring the attainment of the universal primary education in the state.
The Executive Director stated that her office had so far constructed about 30 different blocks of classrooms, reconstructed and renovated about 10 blocks of classrooms across the three senatorial districts of the state.
She noted that all the blocks of classrooms have headmasters’ offices and toilets for ease of administration, convenience and sanitation, stressing that all the building were fitted with the state of art facilities such as the modern red roofs, PVC ceiling, ceramic tiles, water system toilets and white boards.
Princess Erediauwa also explained that her office had taken a step further to construct several units of improved ventilated VIP toilets so as to sufficiently provide sanitation convenience for all pupils and teachers to boost sanitary conditions  in the schools.
To further promote pupils’ enrolment, learning and desirable sanitation in schools, the MDGs boss maintained that water boreholes and underground water storage tanks had been constructed in school premises to serve the schools and their host communities.
On equipping of schools, the Executive Directors remarked that her office had so far procured and supplied about 5,000 standard desks and benches to ameliorate the sufferings of  pupils and enhance their learning.
Asserting that her office had equally supplied some notebooks on various subjects for primary and junior secondary school students, she said the MDGs’ projects were used to complement the transformation efforts of the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s-led administration in the state.
The educational and sanitation programmes she added, were tackled to ensure a high level of attainment of goals 2 and 7 of the MSGs which are designed to ensure that all children of school age acquire basic education in a healthy and sustainable environment.
