ABUDU – One Mr. Sunday Ogbemudia, a native of Abudu community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State has cried out for help in other to save his life and that of his family. Mr. Sunday Ogbemudia who was at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Benin City was accompanied by a friend of his, Mr. Fred Igbinigie.
Mr. Ogbemudia said he was at the NUJ Press Centre to bring before the whole world, the ordeal he is presently going through in his community. He claimed that his ordeal started immediately he decided to renounce his former religious practice in the community and refused to participate in any of it’s rites and rituals but instead he embraced Christianity.
Mr. Ogbemudia further said that this decision of his did not go well with elders and leaders of the community who threatened to deal with him, promising to make his life miserable if he did not retrace his steps. A threat he initially thought ordinary, until unexplainable things and events started happening to him and his family.
When asked by reporters why he decided to abandon the ways of his fore-fathers as he claimed; Mr. Ogbemudia said: “I joined and participated in their ways out of ignorance because that is what I met my father practicing.”
“Now, I am a grown man, knowing what is best for me”Mr. Ogbemudia added. Mr. Ogbemudia also claimed he lost his daughter who was a twin in an unexplainable circumstances, as his daughter who was hale and hearty before going to bed on the 10th of October, 2014 did not wake-up from sleep but died.
“I started suspecting foul play associated with the way my former religion is practice. I observed that when it is getting close to the celebration of our annual festival, which takes place at the beginning of every year, innocent children die in their sleep under unexplainable circumstances and this does not seems to bother our elders”, Mr. Ogbemudia claimed.
Knowing this and other things, I do not want to go into for now, I decided to opt- out of this devilish way. He said his refusal to return to his old religious practice resulted in the community burning down his farm and destroying his properties.
He emphasised that the community Chief Priest openly threatened him, vowing that he will lose the life of his surviving twin boy and his little daughter the same manner he lost his twin daughter,this he said confirmed his earlier suspicion.
On the advice by reporters to make a formal report with the appropriate authority, Mr. Sunday Ogbemudia promised to do all it takes legally to ensure his safety and that of his family.
