BENIN-CITY – A 31-year-old electrician arrested for alleged armed robbery said he was on his way to kill a man when police arrested him with his partner in crime, recovered his gun and the car they snatched for the mission.
The suspect, Sunny Owen disclosed this to journalists when he was paraded along with one Salli Momondu at the Edo State Police Command headquarters, Benin City.
They were said to have pretended to be passengers when they boarded a cab about 7pm and at gunpoint hijacked the vehicle from the driver who they kept inside while on their criminal outing around Santana market, Sapele road, Benin-City, last week.
Though the suspects were paraded for armed robbery, Sunny Owen however told reporters that “I nor dey rob, I be at the Edo State Police Command headquarters, Benin City.

Though the suspects were paraded for armed robbery, Sunny Owen however told reporters that “I nor dey rob, I be cultist! We be Eiye, we be wan go kill one Aye, we blocked the man, I tell the man that he should come down that we want to use his car to go and kill somebody”.
Salli Momodu admitted being a member of Eiye confraternity and a friend to Sunny Owen, he however denied any involvement in the operation.
Exhibits paraded along with them were one cut-to-size single barrel gun and live cartridges.
Commenting on their arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo Command DSP Stephen Onwonchein said the arrest reaffirms the command’s resolve to make Edo a hotbed for criminals and their collaborators.
DSP Onwochei therefore advised criminals to vacate the state or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.
