BENIN CITY-The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Aihanuwa Eregie, has said the Ministry is ready for partnership/collaboration with any focused and serious minded groups that would help leverage on the current phenomenal achievements in the state.
The Commissioner stated this when she played host to the Edo State chapter of the pharmaceutical society of Nigeria (PSN) in her office in Benin City.
Dr. Eregie who described the Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s led administration in the state as a responsible one, pointed out that transparency was the hallmark of the ministry.
She therefore charged PSN to ensure that its members do the needful if they must succeed on their mandate.
The chairman of PSN, Edo State chapter pharmacist Christopher Osasere Iyare, said the visit was to acquaint the commissioner with the new executive members of the body and to solicit for partnership with the state government.
“The PSN is here to seek collaboration and to also familiarise with your ministry, to talk about areas where we need your support, particularly on drugs delivery”, stated the PSN chairman.
He informed the commissioner that a taskforce has been set up by the body for the purpose of clamping down on quackery, as well as rid the society of fake drugs.
Iyare said the essence was to ensure that patients who are the focal point of PSN operations consume genuine drugs prescribed and certified by doctors.
He stated further that PSN week was aimed at addressing certain issues, raise the necessary awareness /sensitization of the people against the incessant use of drugs and other related health issues in the society in view of moving the health system forward.
“The taskforce has been moribund for sometime now and we need to revive it, which is the reason we are here to seek the support of the state government”, Iyare said.
